Flying with Air Berlin

Air Berlin is originally from Oregon (United States), to get to operate from Berlin to several tourist destinations in the world, being the first flight of this airline which took place between the cities of Berlin and Palma de Mallorca in Spain.

The reason for having its first headquarters in the town of Oregon was that after the Second World War, only aircraft of the powers considered as allies could land in Berlin, so in 1978, a former captain of the Pan Am, known as Kim Lundgren, created there Air Berlin.

In early 2004, Air Berlin bought a 24% stake in “NIKI”, the new airline owned by three-time Austrian Formula 1 champion Niki Lauda.
At the same time, Air Berlin is a service provider for the areas of Sales, Marketing, and Logistics.
The main objective of this first low-cost European alliance is to make its way into the Austrian and Eastern European markets.

Air Berlin fleet and team

Air Berlin jets fly very quietly, are quite economical and protect the environment.
The company can even assume that it has one of the youngest fleets in Europe, taking into account that the constant average age of the fleet is below three years.

With regard to the human resources of Air Berlin, Mr. Alvaro Middelmann, Air Berlin’s General Manager for Spain and Portugal, highlights the fact that “our human collective, made up of 2,500 people and led by Joachim Hunold, a very singular man, is a motivated team that works with enthusiasm, which is reflected in the human quality of service we provide to passengers”.

Since December 2004, Air Berlin has had direct, non-stop flights between the cities of Madrid and Berlin.
